AQUA2VAL II: Innovative technologies to boost water reuse in valencian industry
AIJU is participating in this collaborative project aimed at developing and validating advanced technologies for water purification, reuse, and valorization, helping to improve the water resilience of Valencian industry and address the new environmental challenges established by European regulations.
AQUA2VAL II (Validation of Circular and Innovative Technologies for Optimizing Water Use in Valencian Industry) brings together nine technological institutes from the Valencian Community with the goal of developing clean and efficient technological solutions for the treatment of industrial and urban wastewater. The project builds upon the achievements of the previous AQUA2VAL initiative and will increase the technological readiness level of several
solutions up to their validation in real-life environments.
Problem to be solved
The Valencian Community faces significant challenges related to water management. New European regulations require improved removal of emerging contaminants, microplastics, PFAS, and heavy metals present in wastewater, while also increasing water reuse rates and overall water efficiency.
In this context, many industries require technologies capable of:
- Meeting new European regulatory requirements for wastewater treatment.
- Reducing the presence of emerging and critical contaminants.
- Promoting water reuse in industrial processes.
- Advancing towards zero-discharge and circular economy models.
- Reducing dependence on conventional water resources.
Objectives
The main objective of AQUA2VAL II is to design, develop, and implement comprehensive technological solutions for water purification, management, and reuse, with a particular focus on industrial and urban wastewater, ensuring efficient and sustainable water resource management in the Valencian Community.
The project seeks to strengthen the water resilience of Valencian industry through the reuse of reclaimed water, the removal of critical contaminants, and the recovery of valuable resources from waste streams.
Specific Objectives
- Remove emerging contaminants, microplastics, PFAS, and heavy metals from urban and industrial wastewater.
- Develop and validate new technologies for water purification and reuse.
- Increase the percentage of industrial water reuse.
- Produce reclaimed water suitable for different industrial sectors.
- Promote zero-discharge scenarios through waste valorization.
- Recover valuable materials and resources from industrial effluents.
- Validate the use of reclaimed and desalinated water for sustainable hydrogen production.
- Develop an intelligent digital map based on GIS technology and smart agents to support decision-making in water resource management.
