The purpose of this project was the design and development, with guarantees, of innovative baby packaging systems for the ready-to-eat (RTE) and on-the-go (OTG) segments, in particular an optimised microwavable container for RTE baby foods and a self-heating container for OTG baby foods. The idea arose with the aim of responding to the generalised demand of the food container sector for simple preparation of foods in the same container.

OTG – All parents have experienced situations where it is necessary to provide hot prepared foods to their children and they do not have access to external means of doing so (microwave ovens, kitchens, etc.). These situations, which occur in everyday life (excursions, trips, etc.), are even more important at times of emergency (war, natural catastrophes, evacuation, humanitarian missions and development aid, etc.).

RTE – The sector of prepared meals has made efforts in this direction, but current containers do not usually achieve uniform heating in microwave ovens. In baby food, it is very important that heating provides a homogeneous temperature and retains the organoleptic quality of the food.

Therefore, the BABYWARM project developed two types of containers: a self-heating container for children from 0 to 3 years and a container optimised for microwave heating for the children’s menu. Both developments will be checked by experts from various sectors to validate the product, testing its usability and the potential for industrial exploitation.
