“The Custom-Fit project is one of the main European research initiatives where the main aim is to develop a new manufacturing system that enables the construction of products that are customisable for every user directly from a 3D file such as helmets, seats, prostheses and implants. The technical aim of the project is to create products adapted to the individual needs each customer or user. A complete and integrated process will be created: from the initial data capture and design phases to making the items with multi-material plastic-metal distributions in a single component and final verification and distribution. This philosophy will reduce costs, increase flexibility of manufacture of short micro-series and customised items and enable implementation of “Just in Time” manufacturing policies.
