“Plastifiers are a group of additives usually used in plastic material formulations because they impart unique properties with respect to flexibility and ease of processing. The main problem caused by these substances is their high migration capacity, which constitutes a health danger when they are used in consumer products. The overall aim of this project is to propose formulations containing plastifiers but where the migration potential is minimal. To achieve this aim, unusual formulations containing polymeric plastifiers will be proposed and the influence of surface treatments such as plasma and the presence of nanometric scale substances on currently employed monomeric plastifiers will be investigated as novel approaches to be used in the toy and childcare sectors.”
